Colour me shocked!!!

Remember Edward J. Wegman? Yeah, I didn’t either until his name popped up again recently. Not exactly an important contributor to the field of climate science. However, he lingers as a footnote through his attempt to bring down Mann et al.'s 'hockey stick' papers. Failed of course, but denialists loved him. Thought of him as a hero, a father figure if you will. Here's the amusing bit, the flat-earthers made out that he was independent, somehow above all that climate 'debate' guff. Angry little ant John A. from Climate Audit for instance:
We had the Wegman Report, done by a completely independent team of first rank statisticians blah....blah...blah...
But of course that wasn't true. Wegman was a denialist recruited by denialists. He wasn't independent then and isn't now. Why else would he put his signature to this little work of fiction with the likes of Louis Hissink, S. Fred and Lubos Motl, among others?
It is not possible to stop climate change, a natural phenomenon that has affected humanity through the ages…

The United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has issued increasingly alarming conclusions about the climatic influences of human-produced carbon dioxide (CO2), a non-polluting gas that is essential to plant photosynthesis. etc. etc.

Signed:
Edward J. Wegman, PhD, Department of Computational and Data Sciences, George Mason University, Virginia
Who would have thunk it?
